Lack of a Title.

When writing a book, a title is a very important thing. The lack of one, however, can be more hampering in the writing process than one may thing. Frustration is the center of the issue, as well as stubbornness. There just doesn’t seem to be one to sum up the book enough, or give it even a cornerstone to keep working off of. The content of it is under wraps at the moment, but I plan for it to be fully completed by the time I graduated from Bemidji State.

Abstract titles would be a great aid for me, and you should consider providing me with a few; working off of the random sparks uniqueness.

Can Social Networking be successfully taught?

With social networking sites taking a large hold on the mainstream media in our generation, students are finding out that information can be easily shared with hundreds of fellow peers within seconds of posting. This amazing tool, however, is the cause for a large majority of students slacking off in and out of the classroom.

Now being that we are wired into the social networking world 24/7, why not try to find a way to integrate school into the mix? Suggestions would be great in this post, as it will help me with upcoming assignments and projects.

Virtual classroom via webcams and microphones.
- Too sick to make it? Just log in and join the class.
- Never miss a day, or another assignment. They’re given out electronically.
D2L site gets a makeover for efficiency.
- Too many times have I heard the D2L site is either ‘down for maintenance’, or just ‘not working period’.
- If it were fully operational 24/7, with easier usability, students would be more for the electronic method of homework and assignments.
Sell eReader at the bookstore for eBooks.
- Although popularity of the eReader has not yet fully reached its full potential, I would bet that they will be commonplace within a year.
- College students would be able to collaborate all books into one tablet, which can also be integrated into the classroom’s electronics itself. (notes saved automatically, download Powerpoint slide, etc.)

Since what was once the mere thought of “Web 2.0″ has now exploded upon the world in the form of “social networking”, the world will never be the same way since we now have the ability to stay connected to hundreds, if not thousands, of people around the world simultaneously. The only question now, is where do we go from here? How will the world of online networking evolve within a decade from now? Speculate what you will, for I will be making no assumptions about what life on the world-wide web will be 10 years from now.

The Blogosphere. What pulls the viewers in?

Summing up what I’ve seen with working with WordPress for the past few years now, is that it is mainly a popularity contest that snowballs itself into a following of readers. That being said, I should really seek a main topic to discuss here on this blog to create a ‘following’ of a certain type of reader.
Now if I were to discuss everyday things without going into certain specifics, such as this post, I am more than likely going to be talking to my computer monitor in front of me, rather than those seeking knowledge or information online. The only question left now is, what should I blog about? What will keep the people coming back to this specific blog over and over again?
This week will be a brainstorming week for me, in which I shall settle on a topic to talk about week in and week out. Perhaps since I already have a Linux post, I should continue that? Or perhaps broaden out into just a tech blog itself? Only time will tell I suppose..

Linux. Just for the geeks? Not any more.

Nearly two decades have passed since the original Linux kernel was developed and released. At first it was something for the computer geeks to mess around with, and had no official standing in the world. Times have changed now for Linux, for the Linux kernel can be found on more than 87% of systems on the world’s Top 500 supercomputers. With statistics such as those, it’s hard to argue that it is something of the past and still is not as important as Windows or Mac in this modern era. This statement could not be farther from the truth.

With Windows dominating the market for personal computers, and Mac fighting for its place amongst the computer literate people of the world, Linux is actively making its way into the mainstream more and more every day. According to the Linux Counter (http://counter.li.org/), there are well over 100,000 active users in the world that have registered their computers on that site. The guess as to how many in total that have yet to register, is nearing 30 million, and that number continues to grow.

Overall, it comes down to a persons personal preference. If you took months to get the hang of your Mac and don’t feel like attempting to learn the basics of another operating system, that’s fine. For Linux has been around for quite a long time now, and will be here to stay, and will be waiting for you if you muster up the courage to jump into the unique world of Linux.
